Fall cleaning continues...
with a Studio Cleanup/Makeover!
After cleaning up my home office I was inspired and motivated to do the same in my studio! I have a really hard time being productive in a messy space so I knew in order to make the most of my fall and winter I needed to get organized. This endeavor also created the perfect opportunity to add some flooring to my space, which I'd been wanting to do for a while...
First, get rid of trash and unnecessary items... Next, move everything outside and do a lot of sweeping!
As you can see in the photos above, my studio has concrete floors which makes for a very chilly environment in the wintertime. I've been toughing it out for the last few years with extra socks, feet warmers and a rug but I wanted to try putting some kind of flooring down to create more of a barrier between my tootsies and the cold concrete!
Next, fit the flooring to the space... It was so satisfying to install!
I ended up going with something I could easily install myself (with the help of my perfect studiomate, Emi) and wouldn't be too expensive for now since I'd rather buy materials to make beautiful jewelry with! I bought some interlocking rubber mats (used for play areas or gyms) which we cut to fit the space perfectly. We'll see how well it insulates come winter, but I think it should make a definite difference in temperature besides the fact that it looks so beautiful!! If only we could leave it just like this--so much room for activities!
After the installation of the flooring, it was time to move everything back into the space! Moving everything gave me a chance to reorganize all my drawers and shelves and to clean dirty items (which was pretty much everything-is it possible to keep ANYTHING clean in a workshop??) before they were allowed back in!
I can't tell you how much more motivated I am to work in my studio after The Makeover! Everything is organized and there's even more room! Removing everything from the studio allowed us to look at the room with fresh eyes and to assess what was working before and what was cumbersome and wasting space before.
I'm ready for you, Winter!!!
All set to work! I'm excited to see what new jewelry comes out of this space...
